Lying within the Huíla Province, the Humpata plateau rises 2284m above sea level at its highest point. This highlands region covers southwest Angola with Lubango being the main city (the second biggest city in Angola). Serra da Leba is the only climbing location developed within the Humpata plateau, though there is more potential for more development along the plateau cliff face. One of the possible places for developing new routes is at Tundavala gorge which is based north of Serra da Leba. Hampata plateau cliffs form part of the Great Escarpment of southern Africa which consists of solid quartzite sandstone.
